For the record, I'll be blocking accounts that I either don't know or can't immediately tell that we have interests in common. I do not have time for bs and I'm not interested in whatever it is you're selling. I'll be reporting ones that look obviously fake, spammish, scammish.

Good thread here with important insights, but really just read Greg's whole New Republic piece. He highlights some disturbing insights as well as the alarming fact that we don't yet know the full scale of DHS spying on people in churches & elsewhere.
Trump's covert surveillance of anti-ICE protesters is much worse than we thought. I dug into this and found that DHS agents secretly spied on over a dozen meetings of left-leaning groups, all protected by First Amendment.

The details are unnerving. 1/

Trump’s Secret Police Spying on Americans? It’s Darker than We Knew.
Court papers reveal that the Department of Homeland Security’s covert surveillance of anti-ICE groups is much darker than it first appeared. Welcome to Donald Trump’s America.

It didn't look like Jennifer Hegseth was there today, but she & some of their kids are usually on front row at Pentagon worship services even though invites say no guests. She's there so often that AI often includes her (or at least poor versions of her): publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/what-we-ca...
What We Can Learn From AI Slop Images Celebrating Pentagon Worship Services
I first noticed something odd after reporting on Pete Hegseth, who likes to call himself “secretary of war,” reading Psalm 144 during the Pentagon worship service in January to justify the U.S.

As pointed out in Jesus and John Wayne, the comparison of political figures to Jesus Christ - esp. when they're in trouble - isn't a new thing. Oliver North was used as a "persecuted martyr" not long after the Religious Right transferred loyalty to the GOP. theotherjournal.com/2021/05/john...

DOJ's prosecution of Lemon, Fort, and the protesters is part of a broader Trump administration effort to constrain religious freedom to be only for white, right-wing Christians. I discussed this last week on Reign of Error with @briankaylor.bsky.social:

Some great work right here. The links between the clergy and the Klan documented at Monticello were not unusual for the time period; we have other well known cases across the state. Let the implications of that sink in deep.

One of my big goals for the year is to get back into seasonal sync ceremonially. Since the turn towards an inward focus and being a solo practitioner again, I've gotten away from outward ceremony/calendar observances - and am starting to feel it in terms of a disconnection with the natural world.

This is exactly what is needed on so many fronts. We're too used to things being siloed by an infrastructure with some problematic roots. Find a place, gather the community, and share knowledge, skills, and energy. Throw in some food and music, and you have a good time while also meeting needs.
Amid a war on public knowledge, libraries are pushing outward, enlarging the commons through new configurations of civic and creative life.

In her latest — and, yes, 34th! — article for Places, @shannonmattern.bsky.social writes about building the infrastructure we need to keep ourselves free.

Yes, I know who many of them voted for and agree this is the FO that naturally follows the FA. It's still heartbreaking when you see it happening to the families and communities around you,& to know how it is going to impact and reshape the region. Even if their savior/king comes through this time.

AR's Religious Rights at Public Schools Act starts today:
On the surface, it gives non-Christian religions the same rights and protection...but those of us who survived rural schools know what that really means: harassment, isolation & possible violence for those who express the non-majority views.
