Levellers’ Day Oxfordshire – Saturday 9th May
Members of MVM Oxford took part in Levellers’ Day celebrations at Burford Parish Church. This is an annual event commemorating the execution, on 17th May 1649, of three members of Cromwell’s army who had revolted against his dictatorship.
May 13, 2026 at 9:47 AM
They took refuge in the Church and demanded the right for all citizens' voices to be heard through a fair and equal vote. Speeches and debates during the day highlighted the Levellers’ legacy, and how relevant their ideas are for us in the 21st century.
May 13, 2026 at 9:46 AM
On the MVM stall we had the opportunity to discuss our current voting system with visitors, stressing the need for reform to deliver fair and equal votes today.
