I hate doing the "a rollback of trans rights is the gateway for a rollback of women's rights" thing because trans rights are human rights in and of themselves, whatever the impact on cis women.

I literally cite Reacher in Think Write Edit Romance as an example when discussing character / plot arcs, because Reacher does not have a character arc, ever, and nor should he. Beware any writing advice book that tells you you 'must' have any particular element without relating it to genre.
Was about to say: every book of story theory will tell you your character's inner journey is as important as their outer quest. And yet two of the most successful characters of the last 80 years, Jack Reacher and James Bond, defy that.

FWIW I don’t think that AI is an existential threat, nor on track to become one. I do however think that the leaders of the biggest AI companies, AI’s strongest boosters, and some of the folks who are most adept at using it to exploit others are actively hastening along OTHER existential threats.
