While I try not to engage with JB too much cuz he’s not serious at all, this latest post is incredible. 1st he argues BK, & then entire court, couldn’t/didn’t read the briefs in the petitions cuz they can’t read 150pgs in time. 2nd he argues the MO judges aren’t conservative cuz the MO Compromise. 🙄

Yeah Adler gave up the pretense on the shadow docket awhile ago. It’s why he stopped having the reply debates with @stevevladeck.bsky.social, he couldn’t maintain the honesty or objectivity.

The issue is not media or journalistic coverage, but political follow thru. The GOP turned the Tea Party into a national political movement with funding & organization behind it. The Dems can’t even agree to unilaterally and fully oppose the Trumpist agenda, let alone put political will behind it.
Again, the first Tea Party rallies in April 2009 -- heavily promoted in advance by Fox News -- only had about 300,000 attendees across 750 cities, but the media treated it like the Second American Revolution.

There's a long, bad journalistic tradition: All conservative grass-roots political movements are fascinating heartland phenomena, all progressive grass-roots political movements are ineffectual bleating. This one is written off as powered by white female college grads--the wine-moms slur, basically.

This was the hardest thing for me playing trombone in school orchestra. Just the various time signatures couldn’t wrap my brain around it, prob cuz there aren’t enough notes for trombone in those pieces to make it clear. That’s one reason I preferred jazz club and madrigal. Also more theatrical.
I have never fully understand the difference between 3/4 time and 6/8 time and it has always bothered me. Can you explain it? Can you correct this long simmering existential crisis?

South Koreans still have strong memories of military dictatorship and strongman rule, within memory of the middle-aged generation equivalent to Gen Xers (1987). It is built into their national and cultural ethos. Plus they've been invaded within living memory.
