A lot has happened since the last time I gave an update on these projects. I've left a test instance of Volumes and Kompute running for about a week while doing random end to end tests with slight changes, seems to be working fine, no time dependent bugs.

I think I've now covered the majority of the MVP features I wanted the full Vaults service to have. I'm starting to work on other "nonessential" features that allow things like automated secrets management and notifications on certain events, etc...

Throughout the week I've been starting to change the layout of the main Epokingine website along with all information about changes to the services. Yes I'm aware it's currently an eyesore but tbf I'm not really a designer.

Today I worked on the Vaults service, mainly expanding on key store and API token organization (for the organizational version). The key storing features will be used to handle keys and certificates for Volumes, Kompute, and other stuff. Hopefully it'll be ready soon.

This week I continued going over small bugs and improvements. I made DB calls run on pooled connections instead of creating a new one every call (I knew Id have to do this when I wrote the DB methods), also making sure all errors in data creation/mod is handled properly

This week I mainly spent t setting up a machine that I'll be using to test the whole platform and eventually use in prod. While I wasn't doing that I fixed a bunch of minor bugs in the service creation process

Now I’ve got most of the broad context for this story out – I realize writing in 300 char increments is hard – realizing that I have no real users was a gift for me to start redoing this project properly. I had spent about a month doing on and off code optimization, feature expansion, arch changes..

For the last 2 years the need for cloud services has been growing for both large and small businesses along with regular people. Cloud providers are doing their best to keep up with the increase of demand but I realized there isn’t a lot of consideration for the financial and environmental impact.

I haven’t been on BlueSky for a very long time but have decided to be a little more active. For about a year I have been doing on-and-off work to try to start a small cloud platform from scratch, no opensource or enterprise tools and services. Several threads and posts to come later today...
