I think the real truth is they want to supplanted ANH so they can have their fingerprints over it all. This is especially true before they bought Fox, and they wanted to reset Star Wars ro somethjng they didn't have to share points with them on, hence why Empire and Rebels were rebranded.
The era of Disney’s non-canon Star Wars has failed as a cultural experiment because their foremost goal has been to supplant The Phantom Menace (1999, George Lucas) as your go-to reference point for sci-fi media located primarily in the desert, and they have not been able to do that.

It must also be remembered that Iger is the guy who looked at the greatest television murder mystery ever created, and insisted they solve the murder not even halfway through the second season (and first FULL season), snd then expected the show to continue, with no problems.
this is so patronising it pisses me off. the fucking chutzpah to say a real artist like george lucas "wasn't appreciating" the fact you made like this like a fucking focus group to please the single dumbest fanbase of all time. i think he did. and thought that was the problem.

Had to stop listening to a podcast for a bit because they were aggressively leaning into ESB myths to minimize Lucas on the film, while at the same time pushing back against the Kubrick as traumatizing monster narrative on Shining, which to me means they KNOW better.

Watching The Pitt Season 1 again. Really good stuff, but I have to be honest, the whole Incel Kid story is a masterclass in ineptly handled Headline Rip writing. You can make this sort of thing work, but the way it is here, it just feels like an invitation to a huge malpractice suit.

A predator drone locks target and lights it up with a sidewinder missile, downing it in the desert where a detachment of Marines apprehend it (Angels: hard to kill) and put it in stress positions suspended by its wings with a bag over its halo while a private poses for pics and points at its dick.

I think this is a Eureka for media literacy as a whole. A generation raised on mockumentary comedy fundamentally cannot read actual documentaries. Probably the rot began with Spinal Tap.
I think I've cracked the code as to why so many people try to psychoanalyze the facial expressions of the Phantom Menace crew in the fly-on-the-wall behind-the-scenes material:
