My guess is probably that people see her sword boon + being able to still have access to her spells as a double incentive. Plus Heroes kinda leaning into her being a dancer due to the Brave alt.
But yeah I usually just give the class to someone who's falling behind or someone with a long-ranged -+

You lose access to THE best user of Frozen Lance and one of the better Falcon Knights in the game for Maddening so you're very much correct.
Marianne's got too much Frozen Lance OHKO potential to be stuck in dancer, which is usually better off on someone who's not doing too good.
