For anyone who skipped Wilds when it first launched, the game takes players into the Forbidden Lands, an unexplored region where the environment can change dramatically depending on the conditions. You play as a Hunter investigating the region after a young boy named Nata is rescued near its border. His story leads the Guild to investigate a mysterious monster and the events surrounding his village. From there, Wilds is still very much the Monster Hunter experience you'd expect: track monsters, hunt them, collect materials, and use those materials to create stronger weapons and armour. The difference is how much more dynamic the world has become. ## Monster Hunter Wilds has a changing open world One of Wilds' biggest ideas is its living world. The Forbidden Lands can shift between different environmental states, with weather and wildlife changing as conditions move between periods of Plenty, Fallow, and Inclemency. But finding vacancies where a UK employer is willing and able to sponsor you can be as tough as looking for a needle in a haystack. Say you search for “product designer jobs in the UK.” The search can return thousands of vacancies. For an international professional who needs sponsorship, however, most of those jobs may turn out to be irrelevant. This is because there is a difference between a job being advertised in the UK and a job being open to an overseas candidate who requires sponsorship. And while there are various reasons as to why professionals struggle to land a sponsorship role, here are some of the tips people overlook or don't know can help. Why A UK Sponsor Licence Doesn’t Guarantee a Sponsored JobHaving a sponsor licence is only the starting point. Salary requirements, eligible occupations and employer costs can all affect whether a role can actually be sponsored.TechloyDavid Adubiina ## /1. Start with employers, not just job titles This is where the UK Register of Licensed Sponsors becomes useful. Candidates can use the register to identify organisations that hold a sponsor licence, then cross-check those employers against their industry, location and available vacancies. But there is an important distinction to keep in mind: a company appearing on the sponsor list does not mean every vacancy it advertises comes with sponsorship. Oludamola Ibiyemi, founder and CEO of Your Diaspora Hub, a platform helping migrants and diaspora professionals navigate life, work, and settlement in the United Kingdom, says candidates often stop their research too early once they find an employer on the register. “The UK sponsor register tells you which employers are licensed. It does not tell you whether they are actively using that licence, which roles they have sponsored before, or whether the vacancy in front of you is one of them,” she says. As a candidate, you still need to check the specific role and whether the company is offering sponsorship for that vacancy. ## /2. Don't just target the obvious names When people think about companies that can sponsor international workers, they often think about big tech companies such as Amazon, Apple and Google, forgetting that there are smaller and growing companies that international professionals can look at. Some eligible scale-up businesses can sponsor workers through the Scale-up Worker route, which creates another group of employers candidates can consider when searching for UK opportunities. The Scale-up Worker pathway is a fast-track immigration pathway for highly skilled professionals who have a confirmed job offer from a fast-growing UK business. This means the search does not have to stop at the biggest companies. You can also look at growing companies in your industry, check whether they hold the relevant sponsor licence, and then see whether they have vacancies that match your experience. ## /3. Don't wait until the offer stage to ask about sponsorship Finding an employer that can sponsor you is only part of the process. Candidates also need to think about **when** they raise the subject of sponsorship. According to Ibiyemi, one of the biggest mistakes she sees is people leaving the sponsorship conversation until the end of the recruitment process. “People are told to prove themselves first and raise the visa question later, so they get to the final stage before mentioning it. By then the employer has run a process, budgeted a salary and built expectations around a start date. Introducing sponsorship at that point feels to them like a new problem rather than a known condition, and that is when offers quietly evaporate,” she says Ideally, it should be "raised at application stage; it is just a fact about the role. Raising it at offer stage, it looks like something you concealed,” Ibiyemi added That doesn't mean every application needs to lead with a long explanation about immigration status. However, this helps to establish early whether sponsorship is available instead of progressing through an entire recruitment process without knowing. ## /4. Don't assume the headline salary is enough Even after finding an employer that sponsors and a role that matches your experience, there is another detail candidates need to check before assuming they are eligible, which is the salary. Ibiyemi says this is one area that “catches even the people who did their homework.” She explains that “assuming the general salary threshold is the number that matters” can be a mistake. “You have to be paid the higher of that threshold or the going rate for your specific occupation code. An offer can clear the headline figure and still fail, and people tend to discover that far too late to do anything about it.” The important part is that the general salary threshold is not necessarily the only figure that matters. The going rate for the specific occupation code can be higher, so a salary that looks sufficient at first glance may still fall short of the requirement for that particular role. ## /5. You can also look within the company you already work for You may not have to start your UK job search by looking for a new employer. If you already work for an international company that has a UK business, you could explore whether there is an opportunity to move within the company through the Senior or Specialist Worker route, if you meet the requirements. Unlike the Scale-up Worker route, which is designed for eligible workers joining qualifying UK scale-up businesses, the Senior or Specialist Worker route is a temporary work route under the UK’s Global Business Mobility framework. It allows multinational companies to transfer eligible key staff to an established UK branch within the same business group. This is different from the popular idea that you have to look beyond your locality to find global opportunities. Sometimes, the company you already work for can be the link to another market. Your locality could take you global. Contrary to the Artificial Intelligence apocalypse fears brought back into the conversation by AI researchers warning that the technology could pose a serious threat to humanity, attendees at Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference in San Francisco had other things on their minds. People at the conference were still worried about AI. Still, according to a Business Insider report, their concerns were less about an AI-driven extinction and more about its impact on jobs, mental health, the environment, privacy, and how deeply the technology is becoming part of everyday life. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, speaking at Dreamforce, has said that “some degree of accidents are unavoidable with new technology.” He added, however, that what matters to him is having “a great culture of accident reporting and learning.” Why Anthropic Researcher Jacob Coxon Quit, and Who AgreedCoxon’s warning comes as both OpenAI and Anthropic have faced incidents involving their AI systems gaining access to other organisations’ systems.TechloyDavid Adubiina ## AI taking over the world is not the immediate worry Dean Levita, a local tech worker attending Dreamforce, said he was mostly unconcerned about AI causing human extinction. People can understand that a major earthquake could happen without believing that one is about to happen. “It’s cautionary, it’s not imminent,” he said. That view was also reflected in the response from Henry Sandles, who was attending Dreamforce with Sara Jamison to learn more about Salesforce because they regularly use the software at their nonprofit, which preserves a historic railroad. When asked about fears of AI causing human extinction, Sandles responded, “We’ve been here before.” He said he trusted that people would be able to shut down AI before it caused serious harm. “I just can’t see computers being smarter than humans,” Sandles said. For Jamison, however, there was another AI concern that felt much more real. ## Data centers are another AI concern Jamison said she was more concerned about the environmental impact of the data centers being built to support AI. Apple made a few tweaks to improve the Liquid Glass experience, but there are still a few things that bug me.
I Used iOS 27 for a Day, and These Changes Surprised Me
I usually don't expect huge changes whenever there's a new iOS update. Apple, in my opinion, tends to make small refinements rather than completely reinvent the iPhone experience. The last major visual overhaul came with Liquid Glass in iOS 26. So when rumours about iOS 27 started flying around, I was a bit sceptical. Part of that scepticism came from Apple's AI track record. The headline feature this year was a completely rebuilt Siri AI, but after everything that happened with Apple Intelligence over the past year, I wasn't about to get my hopes up again. The one thing I was genuinely excited about, though, was the promise of tweaks to Liquid Glass. I wasn't the biggest fan of the design in iOS 26, and I was hoping Apple would make it look a bit sleeker and more consistent. So I installed iOS 27 to see what all the fuss was about. Here are the things I noticed after using it for one day. iOS 27 Release Time, New Features and Compatible iPhonesiOS 27 rolls out on Monday, September 14, with the update expected around 10 a.m. Pacific or 1 p.m. Eastern.TechloyOgbonda Chivumnovu ## My biggest gripe showed up almost immediately Before I even started exploring new features, something kept bugging me. Whenever I swiped up or down on the Lock Screen to bring up notifications, the background opacity kept changing. It almost looked like the interface couldn't decide whether it wanted to be transparent or frosted. 0:00 /0:07 1× __The opacity changing as I swipe up to notifications (video: Chivumnovu Ogbonda / Techloy.com)__ I don't know whether it's a weird iOS 27 bug or something specific to my iPhone 12 Pro Max, but I found it surprisingly jarring every single time it happened. Hopefully it's something Apple patches quickly. The second thing? I'm still not completely sold on Liquid Glass. It looks much better than it did in iOS 26, but dark wallpapers and some third-party apps still make the transparency feel a little messy. There are moments where the interface looks gorgeous, and other moments where it feels overly translucent for no reason. ## The visual tweaks to Liquid Glass are actually good But somehow Liquid Glass is probably my favourite part of iOS 27. Instead of forcing everyone into one version of Liquid Glass, Apple has added a continuous translucency slider. You can adjust the interface from Ultraclear, almost completely transparent, all the way to Fully Tinted, which gives everything a much frostier, more opaque appearance. I genuinely like this addition because it gives you control over how dramatic the effect looks instead of making Apple's design choice everyone's design choice. I also noticed subtle changes across the interface. The battery icon has been redesigned with flatter colours, especially when charging or in Low Power Mode. It looks cleaner and less glossy than before. The Wi-Fi and cellular icons have also changed slightly, although you'd probably miss those if you weren't looking closely. __The new updated status bar in iOS 27 (screenshot: Chivumnovu Ogbonda / Techloy.com)__ And then there are the little animations. Every time you tap an app icon, there's a tiny transition that somehow makes the phone feel more responsive. Capcom brought Mega Man, Resident Evil, Dragon's Dogma, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter to TGS 2026. Here's everything announced, and what caught my attention.
TGS 2026 Capcom Spotlight: Everything Revealed
After sitting through Nintendo's recent Directs and Sony's State of Play, I went into the TGS 2026 Capcom Spotlight wondering whether Capcom would finally have something completely unexpected for us. I was secretly hoping for Ace Attorney. That didn't happen. There wasn't a brand-new game announcement either, but I don't think the showcase needed one to be interesting. Capcom had plenty of updates to go through, including a much closer look at Mega Man Dual Override, six Resident Evil games coming to Nintendo Switch 2, another look at Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, and, eventually, a pretty substantial Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance presentation. The Monster Hunter segment ended up taking most of my attention, but there were a few other announcements that stood out along the way. Here's everything Capcom showed at TGS 2026, along with what I thought about each reveal. State of Play September 2026: Everything AnnouncedSony had plenty to announce, but a few reveals, including the final chapter of Final Fantasy VII’s remake trilogy, stood above the rest.TechloyEmmanuel Umahi ## Mega Man Dual Override Gets More Details on Proto Man The first game Capcom showed was Mega Man Dual Override, and this was probably the point where I became more interested in the game than I was before the presentation. The big focus was Proto Man, who is confirmed as a playable character alongside Mega Man. That isn't simply a cosmetic character swap, either. Mega Man retains the familiar ranged combat you'd expect from the series, while Proto Man is built more around close-range attacks. The comparison to Zero from Mega Man X makes sense from what Capcom showed. There's also a chip system with more than 50 upgrades, allowing you to change different aspects of your character and weapons. Some are relatively small improvements, while others can fundamentally alter how a weapon behaves. I particularly liked the idea of being able to experiment with these upgrades rather than simply unlocking a stronger version of the same weapon. The Robot Masters remain central to progression, with defeated bosses providing new abilities to use against other enemies. Capcom also showed Twinkle Girl, a Robot Master with a magical-girl-inspired design and attacks. It looks like Capcom is having some fun with the bosses this time around. Mega Man Dual Override launches in Spring 2027. ## Pragmata Gets Free Mega Man and Roll Costumes Pragmata didn't get a huge gameplay update, but Capcom did have something nice for people who already own the game or have been waiting to play it. Mega Man and Roll-inspired outfits are being added for the game's protagonists, and they're free. I'm always happier when these kinds of crossover costumes are actually given to players rather than being locked behind another purchase, particularly when they're essentially a celebration of Capcom's own history. The game is also getting its first discount across most marketplaces, so this feels like Capcom's way of giving Pragmata another push rather than announcing substantial new content. ## Six Resident Evil Games Are Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 This was one of the announcements I imagine Nintendo Switch 2 owners were paying close attention to. Capcom confirmed six Resident Evil games for Switch 2: * Resident Evil 2 * Resident Evil 3 * Resident Evil 4 Remake * Resident Evil 7: Biohazard * Resident Evil Village * Resident Evil Requiem That's a pretty significant chunk of the modern Resident Evil catalogue arriving on one console. What stood out to me here isn't just the number of games. It's the fact that Nintendo players will be able to experience several generations of the modern Resident Evil formula on the same hardware. And with Resident Evil Requiem joining them, Switch 2 is becoming a much more interesting place to play the franchise. Capcom also mentioned projects being developed for the series' 30th anniversary, although we didn't get any major details about those during this presentation. ## Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Adds New Dungeons and a Character Creator Next up was Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, and Capcom gave us a better look at what this expanded version is bringing to the game. The biggest additions include Forsaken Dominion, where players will uncover the secrets surrounding the undying dragon, alongside 12 new dungeons featuring new enemies and threats. There's also an expanded character creator, giving players more ways to customise both their Arisen and Pawn. One feature I found particularly interesting is the addition of official Pawns created by creators and celebrities. More of these will apparently be added over time, which should give the Pawn system a little more personality. Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launches on October 6. ## Street Fighter 6 Reveals More of Arjun Street Fighter 6 also made an appearance with another look at upcoming DLC character Arjun. Capcom focused on his pressure-heavy fighting style and showed more of how he'll operate in actual matches. Arjun will be playable at Capcom's TGS booth, while his full release is scheduled for October 14. Capcom is also continuing its Street Fighter movie crossover, with movie versions of characters appearing on the game's character select screens. And if you're following the game's outfit releases, C. Viper's Outfit 4 will arrive alongside Arjun. Why Australian IT Leaders Are Rethinking Network Defense
The Australian regulatory environment changed fundamentally over the last twelve months. With APRA’s CPS 230 now firmly in force and the new Smart Device cybersecurity rules kicking in this March, tech executives are spending an unreasonable amount of time filling out risk matrices. If you run an IT department right now, you already know the disconnect between passing an audit and actually stopping a breach. We treat compliance frameworks as the ultimate goal. The board asks if we are aligned with the Essential Eight, the CIO says yes, and everyone goes back to work. Meanwhile, the service desk is drowning in alerts, and the infrastructure team is applying patches at 2 AM on a Sunday. The reality is that a green tick on a compliance spreadsheet does not deter a threat actor. Attackers do not care about your governance policies or your vendor risk assessments. They care about the misconfigured API gateway you deployed last Tuesday and the service account with overly broad permissions. Moving from a compliance-heavy mindset to a defensible architecture requires looking at your network through the eyes of someone trying to break it. You have to assume compromise and work backward to understand exactly how it happened. ## **The false comfort of automated vulnerability scanning** Most IT departments rely heavily on automated vulnerability scanners. You point the tool at your IP range, let it run, and wait for the PDF report. The problem is what happens next. The scanner invariably spits out hundreds, if not thousands, of vulnerabilities. Every missing patch, outdated library, and deprecated protocol gets flagged. The IT Service Desk Manager is then handed a spreadsheet of "Critical" and "High" alerts and told to fix them. This creates massive operational friction. The infrastructure team has to schedule downtime, test patches to ensure they do not break legacy applications, and push updates across the entire environment. They burn out chasing vulnerabilities that might not even be exploitable in your specific environment. A critical vulnerability in a web server is irrelevant if that server sits isolated behind three firewalls and is not accessible from the internet. Automated tools lack context. They find flaws, but they cannot chain those flaws together the way a human attacker would. They generate noise, and when a team is overwhelmed by noise, they start missing the actual threats. Relying solely on these automated sweeps gives IT Directors a false sense of security. You think you are fixing the network, but you are just playing an unwinnable game of whack-a-mole with common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVEs). ## **Testing defenses against human adversaries** If you want to know how secure your systems are, you have to let someone try to break in. This is where the gap between theory and reality closes entirely. Instead of guessing which of the 500 unpatched vulnerabilities an attacker might use, you hire professionals to simulate an actual breach. A human analyst looks at your network differently than a scanner does. They look for logical bypasses. They find the forgotten development server sitting on a public IP that the infrastructure team spun up and abandoned three years ago. They use a low-level phishing compromise to scrape basic user credentials, and then they attempt to pivot those credentials to gain domain admin rights. This approach changes the entire conversation around risk. However, if you present a report demonstrating that a hired attacker easily compromised the billing system using a known exploit in a legacy application, the conversation shifts immediately. Simulating a breach translates technical risk into business risk. It proves that the vulnerabilities are not abstract concepts—they are open doors directly threatening the company's revenue and reputation. This evidence-based approach also justifies the modernization of legacy systems. Every IT department has that one outdated application running on an old operating system because "the business relies on it." It is often impossible to get permission to replace it until you can definitively prove it is a massive operational liability. Showing the board exactly how that specific application compromises the wider network is the fastest way to get the retirement roadmap approved and funded. ## **Building a resilient operational culture** Security can no longer operate in a vacuum. Network admins, support engineers, and developers must understand how daily actions impact defensive posture. Sharing simulated attack findings changes behavior. A developer seeing an attacker exploit their hardcoded API key won't repeat that mistake. A service desk analyst seeing how a compromised account led to a domain takeover will take identity verification seriously. This builds a culture defaulting to security, where teams view controls as necessary defenses rather than frustrating roadblocks. Stop pretending regulatory adherence equals security.
