Our new study on the prevalence of psychological distress among adolescents in Ireland is out.

We looked at anonymous surveys from over 20,000 adolescents across Ireland and explored at how rates of poor mental health, repetitive self-harm and suicide attempt were changing. Read more below! ⤵️

Online bullying is a relatively new phenomenon. But is it also a new risk for teenage mental illness? Our new study suggests it is. And particularly when it comes to developing anxiety disorder in late teens.

Our new study using #PlanetYouth surveys in over 4,000 teens aged 15-16 shows that the following factors were cross-sectionally associated with poorer mental health:

📱📺 Heavy screen use (4+ hrs/day)
🪞 Poor body image
🤳 Sexting behaviours

@iankellehermd.bsky.social and co previously demonstrated that ~50% of those with psychosis and bipolar disorder had been to CAMHs in Finland.
That was no fluke, as they have now demonstrated that it's 45% in wales. Great work by @kirstieohare.bsky.social 👏 👏

I wrote a blog back in May about 30-year trends in self-reported psychological distress.

Have things changed? From the 1990s to the early 00s-- not so much. But from the 2010s onwards-- possibly, and most evidently for young people.
