Last year the Home Office (Guardian 4/7/25) admitted that it didn't know details or whereabouts of an estimated 200,000 people who've lived in UK legally for decades.
Immigration records are being digitised, so some people may be missed and become "undocumented".
Might Reform deny Dadaji NHS access?

English exceptionalism based on imperialism is not a basis for governing. It is time Burnham recognised that.

Munchetty was right to seek clarification of Kemi Badenoch's suggestion that people "living in areas that are quite expensive" should be ineligible for the full housing benefit element in Universal Credit, or even ANY housing benefit.
The benefit was related to the Broad Rental Market Area averages.

Your regular reminder from Anne Applebaum:
"If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia."

On 04/07/25, Wes Streeting said he would rely on digital technology to improve NHS efficiency.
But computerisation alone will make existing problems deeper and delays longer.
FIRST must come SYSTEMS ANALYSIS to OPTIMISE PROCESSES and FOCUS on objectives.
HAS THIS BEEN DONE?

We have a little over 4,600 GW of fossil fuel power plant capacity now running. If we could install solar with batteries at $50,000 per megawatt, which is doable imo, then we could curtail the use of all those fossil fueled power plants by over 75% for only $230 billion. I think we should do that.

Neo-liberal Capitalism is extreme capitalism and purely acquisitive in nature and pleonexic – it is not enough to have enough, it is the pursuit of more and everything. It is designed to monopolise power and give none away; it is designed to crush competitors. It is to make gods out of mere men

And I'm old enough to know that in 1953, US & UK forced out the liberal PM of Iran, Mossadegh, after which the Shah ruled as an increasingly brutal autocrat - until the revolution of 1979 brought in the brutal Islamic republic led by Ruhollah Khomeini.
Thus the US/UK 1953 coup led to today's mess.
The US has a dark history of unaccountability.

See this chart?

Workers’ share of the nation’s income is at the lowest it’s been since records began in 1947. Corporate profits’ share, on the other hand, is the highest it’s been since 1950.

This is why we must build back worker power.

#Denmark built so much wind that some blustery hours the turbines out-produce what the whole country is using.
When that happens, the extra power doesn’t sit idle. It moves through Denmark’s links into the wider European network and heads to neighbors like Germany, Norway, Sweden. #ActOnClimate

124 years later it is still in operation on the now-preserved line.

Democratic Disadvantage, an overseas view

As a UK liberal democrat I'm sad to see Democrats without a national leader.
Their several outstanding local personalities have such disparate views that elsewhere they would be in different parties.
But the MAGA/Reps are united with simpler media messages.

UK Government figures show that in the 7 days from 30 August, 2026 to 5th September, 2026,
zero small boats arrived and zero illegal migrants arrived.

This won't last of course but it does show that the problem is now significantly reduced.

In "The Righteous Mind", J Haidt, 2012, proposes 6 'Moral Foundations', for our attitudes.
"Care/Harm
Fairness/Cheating
Liberty/Oppression
Loyalty/Betrayal
Authority/Subversion
Sanctity/Degradation"
Libs stress 1, 2 & 3.
Cons stress 4, 5 & 6, but not exclusively, & this gives them a political edge.
