Straight talk time: Doomerism is BORING. It's the same fantasties rehashed over and over again, just louder each time.

And with each iteration it seems that new audiences are being reached, and a new group of people needs to be talked down
from unnecessary fear.

Did you know that the cells of old animals contain much less mRNA than the cells of young ones? Let me share with you some results from an ongoing project in the lab, where we are finding that a progressive depletion of total mRNA abundance is a crucial part of aging 1/22

Part of the issue is the world doesn’t owe you an answer just because you have an interesting question, and I suspect many of our interesting social science questions will go unanswered for a very long time.

As a predominantly inattentive ADHDer, the only way that an LLM could 'help' me write is with cognitive offloading, which is actually a lie, and one that I do not trust.

For grammar checking, there is a great open source alternative to Grammarly which is entirely non-LLM called Harper.
Harper | Privacy-First Offline Grammar Checker
Harper checks your writing instantly—fast, lightweight and utterly private—so you can polish every clause without surrendering a single keystroke.

kallisto sped up RNA-seq quantification by 50x. Now another 50x speedup... quantify hundreds of millions of reads in a few seconds.

This seems too good to be true. But it's true!
Incredible accomplishment by @pmelsted.bsky.social.
Excited to share this preprint that describes my latest work on using GPUs to accelerate processing of RNA-seq data.

The title says it all: "RNA-seq analysis in seconds using GPUs" now on biorxiv www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... and github github.com/pachterlab/k...

Errors. Call them errors ffs. They're not hallucinations they're not lies. Call them errors. This dumbass personification of a fancy prediction tool is only reinforcing the idea that these things really are intelligent and not just a computer program.

Congratulations to @jonathangoeke.bsky.social, and our @astar-gis.bsky.social team on your SG-NEx project, providing a comprehensive resource that enables the development and benchmarking of computational methods for profiling complex transcriptional events at isoform-level resolution.
An Analysis presents benchmarking results from the Singapore Nanopore Expression consortium project, plus a valuable resource of datasets generated from various long-read and short-read RNA sequencing technologies.
