COYOTE TERRITORY
Encountered this gorgeous canine at 6:15 AM this morning in Deer Canyon, Pacific Highlands Ranch. After passing close he caught my scent trail where I had just walked moments earlier, then made a very familiar claim that this is his territory!

It's the world's fastest bird also capable of flight: top ground speed = to that of Usain Bolt
The "racing stripe" on its cheek with a vivid mix of dark blue, white, and bright red-orange is actually a patch of bare, featherless skin rather than colored feathers
