In late July, I attended the Society for New Testament Studies Conference in Durham, following a special invitation from the chairs of the Historical Jesus Seminar. The conference offered valuable opportunities to discuss my research, meet new scholars, and publicise our Jesus and Slavery project.

We especially seek proposals from early career scholars and scholars from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Limited travel funds are available, as well as the option to present in an online seminar.

Please share this call for papers with anyone who may be interested in contributing.

In July, I attended the EABS Annual Meeting in Leuven. So far, my best conference experience! I presented two papers on historical Jesus research, met wonderful people, and learned so much. EABS seems to know a secret about bringing people closer together. 😊

A fantastic start to July 2026! I presented and chaired at the SBL International Meeting in Adelaide, Australia, caught up with old friends, met inspiring new people, and learned more about First Nations history. I also made time for Sydney and Guangzhou, China along the way!

At the EABS Graduate Symposium in Lisbon, I presented my DPhil work on the need for a social-historical examination of the quest for the Historical Jesus and the ideologies that shaped it. A wonderfully welcoming space for early-career scholars, thank you, EABS Student Reps!

Excited to present a paper at the Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting in Boston. My paper was selected for a Next Quest for the Historical Jesus session, an invaluable opportunity.

Many thanks to the Hibbert Trust for their generous support.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that studying the Historical Jesus would lead me to Oxford.

A reminder to anyone who doubts: Oxford is not only for the extraordinary. It is also for ordinary people willing to try.

I had long heard that the British New Testament Society Conference was unlike any other. Just before beginning my phd studies, I presented a paper on slavery and the Next Quest for the Historical Jesus. The atmosphere was open, supportive, and generous, and I left inspired, hoping to return.

In March 2024, I visited Utrecht for a few days. It was deeply moving to step inside the new building of my former university, the PThU. After that, I was a guest of our congregation’s partner church, the Geertekerk Remonstranten.

The Rewriting Jesus conference in Münster was formative for my path in the field. Though long engaged with Historical Jesus research, this Next Quest-focused event connected me with mentors and friends, deepened my work, and led to a chapter invitation. I am grateful.
