It's pretty easy to cynically discount the new style as uninspired and pandering to modern audiences but there definitely a lot of artistry and intentionality in the game's visuals beyond just Zelda in 4k

My working theory on why the knee-jerk reaction to the reveal was so bad from the fans is that the serie has been committed to stylization for a while now and it's basically a point of pride and identity in the fandom

Like I agree the term sucks but like trying to coin a different term now would be an uphill battle. It just so happened that the first group of people that felt the need to name the genre where the one that had issues about it. If you think about it it's kinda the same as art movements

I think "friendslop" is an interesting case. It started as widely unpopular derogatory term that basically became the name of the genre it was reffering to simply because it's practical to already have a word that represent that specific set of games even if the word sucks

I mean the issue really is that no matter how obvious the argument against the outrage is, people never get to it because instantly reacting and posting about any negative feeling you may have toward something is kind of a common reflex and hard to grow out of

People just really don't like being excluded from things even if the thing in question doesn't really interest them in the first place which is normal and ok until they don't stop to think rationally and start discourse over that vague feeling of exclusion
