Wood lily - finding seed.
All my go-to spots were empty this year. No flowers bloomed and thus no seed pods. I even followed a lead from a colleague to a spot where 50+ had been seen blooming earlier this summer - I went to look and found no seed.

Every year at this time, the road shoulders in my area become lined with prairie sunflower (Helianthus petiolaris) - a native annual, and they’re fabulous.

Alright, this is for the #prairie restoration nerds. Narrow-leaved purple coneflower (Echinacea angustifolia) and meadow blazingstar (Liatris ligulistylis) are both blooming in a first year planting. THIS IS NOT EXPECTED. This field had been corn/beans for decades prior.

Gumweed (Grindelia squarrosa) in my #prairie restoration. From hand-picked seed. The flower heads are very sticky - this grasshopper might actually be stuck.

Here’s a throwback. If you have a keen eye on the #prairie, every once in a while you will find a wildflower that is normally purple be all white in color. This example is a purple prairie clover…. but white. #nativeplants

I just watched monarchs form a roost in my yard on an oak branch.
!!!! 10 out of 10! Would highly recommend!!!
They just kept floating in. This is the best I could do for a pic, but there’s probably around 50 of them and they’re still coming.

Been slacking on my #prairie walks in the evening. It’s been so hot and dry lately. But, the prairie never disappoints! I really like this capture. #nativeplants
