Glaciologist @matthias-huss.bsky.social shows that the centre of the Great Aletsch glacier in Switzerland (the biggest in the Alps) lost 6 meters(!) of thickness just this summer.

On the weekend we surveyed a small section of snow gum forest on Mt Stirling as part of our efforts to have these trees listed as threatened under federal env laws.
The scale of loss due to dieback was shocking (altho' was only 1k trees, so small data set).
