At no point did I say that safety is not a concern. I'm saying that not allowing a solar system with a transfer switch does not make sense. It should be allowed if a code compliant transfer switch is used. Just like a generator. But it isn't...yet.

I'm not sure where you see scare quotes. I'm simply pointing out that the reasoning is flawed because there is a solution available. A solar system with a transfer system is not allowed to run when the grid is down, but a backup generator is. Flawed reasoning, in my opinion.

This was one of the main reasons we did not grid tie. The "reasoning" is that with the grid down, power generated by solar installations could put electrical workers at risk. Automatic transfer switches, which are a standard feature on most solar inverters, already prevent this.
