This feels like the same kind of vestigial metaphor as floppy-disk save icon or telephone headset icon (or even files and folders at this point)

it was also interesting to recall the pre-gadget gadgets that were just [my old iPhone + old plastic toy + battery pack + projector] ziptied together, and how that already had compelling usage patterns
(in some ways, we still haven't caught the gadget up to those!)
