The price cap is set by the regulator Ofgem, not the energy companies. From October it rises £60 to £1,723 for a typical household, after the electricity VAT cut. Without it the rise would be about £105. Source: Ofgem, 26 Aug 2026

There is no cap on your energy bill. Ofgem's 'price cap' caps unit rates and standing charges on standard variable tariffs - nothing else. At identical capped rates: half typical usage £1,016 a year, typical £1,723, double £3,139. Use more, pay more.

London house prices have now fallen year-on-year for 11 consecutive months - down 3.3% in the 12 months to July, the steepest drop since January 2024. The UK as a whole is still rising: up 1.4% to an average of £273,000.
