My #Abergavenny garden’s Common Darters can stay inactive for lengthy periods when the sun goes in, which gives a chance for some up close and personal shots. #insects #dragonfly #wildlife #odonata #wales #nature

Small Copper butterflies enjoying the asters in my #Abergavenny garden. One of my favourite butterflies. Small but perfectly formed and wonderfully marked and coloured. #Wales #butterfly #insects #ukwildlife #nature

Common Darters in my #Abergavenny garden. When the love-in is over it's off together to do some oviposting in tandem in the pond. In case there is any confusion the orange one is the male. #ukwildlife #dragonfly #odonata #wales #insects #environment.

In my #Abergavenny garden today. Just what I like to see. A Golden-ringed Dragonfly. Had one very briefly yesterday too. The first this season for me. #ukwildlife #environment @britishdragonflies.bsky.social #odonata #wales #dragonfly

This is a Large Red Damselfly “shivering” on our porch floor. The only species to emerge from our #Abergavenny garden pond so far this year. Never previously been this late in the season before seeing a dragonfly, usually a Chaser. #nature #odonata #insects #wildlife #Wales

Where would we be without our dreams?
In this one living silver X mark the spot
What treasure lies buried here?
Where is the spot?
It’s here! It’s there! It’s everywhere it would seem.

Oh dear. Its looks like I’m in danger of becoming obsessed with siskin. They have been continuously present in my #Abergavenny garden since New Year and I’m finding them very hard to resist -photographically speaking.

Yes - blast it out robin. Full volume, as loud as you please. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, spring is here and you’re going to tell everyone about it. Quite right! We all feel better for hearing your song. #birds #nature #wales #gwent #photography

Today at our #Abergavenny bird feeder: Battling Siskin - It’s not as if there isn’t plenty of seed to go around. You’d think they could play nicely. #birdersWales. #UKbirds #nature #wildlife #wales

Great Tits at the peanut feeder: Yes, things can become a little argumentative but if you are lucky enough to win through and claim a peanut as your prize you best make off with it and consume it somewhere you’ll have a bit of peace and quiet. #WalesBirds #nature #wildlife #Gwent #photography

Greater Spotted Woodpeckers are regular visitors to our #Abergavenny garden. They have a routine of first landing in the branches of our cherry tree before dropping down onto the feeders for a two course feed - fat balls for starters , followed by peanuts. Yum! #UKbirds #UKwildlife #nature #Wales

Those garden goldfinch! They are so belligerent! They never overlook the opportunity for a good dust-up over the sunflower seeds. No serious damage ever seems to result. Bluff and bluster seems to be the name of the game. #birdersWales #Wales #ukwildlife #nature #photography #birds

Goosander in pair bonding displays prior to breeding season. Males have the moves - zooming in front of females with as much splash as possible, raising feathers on head to make it larger, stretching necks & pointing at the sky & showing off a fine pair of wings. #birds #Wales #wildlife #nature

Goldfinch defend their possession of our #Abergavenny bird feeder with some enthusiasm. Coal and Blue Tits may try to sneak in but are often spotted before alighting and forced to retreat. Other Goldfinch are also seen off if not in the right gang it seems #nature #wildlife #birderswales #wales
