@socialists.nyc I struggle a bit with the all or nothing stance of the DSA. I agree with 90% but believe that the Nordic template would be much better. Pure socialist countries rarely are successful because the temptation of power is too great. We need capitalism reform.

If the Democrats get control of the house and senate they need to go full bulldozer mode over the Republicans. Kill the filibuster. Immediately pass a federal ban on partisan gerrymandering. Change the focus of the budget from war fighting military to social programs here and soft power abroad.

So the Trump appointed SCOTUS said the VRA was not needed because systemic racism is no longer the reason for gerrymandering. Immediately all southern states redraw district maps to eliminate most black districts. You seriously can’t make this up!

If our country survives this the conservative members of SCOTUS, the administration, all the Trump enablers in the house and senate. Need to be presented in history books as the greatest threat our country has ever faced. They have paves a way to a dictatorship rule.

I find it interesting that in trying to do the right thing and get voter approved map in Virginia the court ruled against it due to procedures. Meanwhile Republicans are drawing maps in secret backrooms to disenfranchise voters and the courts says that is fine. How can anyone say our system works?

I don’t understand how courts can uphold gerrymandered maps because it was only drawn to give partisan advantage. Isn’t that the same thing as disenfranchising voters? If they can draw a map that gives all the representation to one party how is that democratic?
