Privileged male boomer and recovering federal criminal defense lawyer. Historian before that. Former trial practice and soccer coach. Now: dog & guitars. Angry since 1968 and getting angrier. “Where there’s law there’s injustice” (Tolstoy).

Victor Hugo: “An enormous fortress of prejudices, privileges, superstitions, lies, exactions, abuses, violences, iniquities, and darkness still stands erect in this world, with its towers of hatred. It must be cast down. This monstrous mass must be made to crumble.”
Apple has also capitulated to the Orange baby man. I sent Apple a correction asking it to grow a spine. #LakeOntario

#dollyparton From the comments to the NYT obit: “The only way I was able to regularly get new books as a kid was through her program. She helped my mom and me so much. The world is so much worse off without her.”

#wnba Unfortunate that some of the most important WNBA games of the season can’t be seen live without sending money to Amazon, which I would only do under extreme duress.

Anybody the Republicans put up in 2028 is going to be terrible in numerous ways, and there be a lot of contenders. We just have to beat them.

For my newsletter, I spelled out once simple trick for the WNBA to shut down that transphobic publicity stunt by two former NBA players:

Here's How the WNBA Can Win the Anti-Trans Controversy
The league has a golden opportunity to make a definitive and educational point about trans athletes–if it has the courage to do it

The Phillies are a slow-motion train wreck.

The Phillies are implicitly conceding every game in which they start Nola or some random combination of their relief staff. They must think they can get to the playoffs winning every 2 or 3 out of 5.

After 50, formerly incarcerated people have higher rates of stroke, cancer, heart disease, and chronic lung disease.

Mass incarceration has created a public health crisis.

#wnba Gotta choose between watching the Liberty in the Commissioner’s Cup or continuing to boycott Amazon Prime. Disappointed in the WNBA, but I’m going to skip the game.

I’m told it’s elitest to mock a UFC match on the WH lawn but here’s the reality: garbage culture is garbage culture and this debases the White House, is corrupt and is an insult at a moment the real needs of the people are being ignored.

Thinking back to 1987. I will vote for the Democrat who promises, “Tear down this wall.” www.newyorker.com/news/letter-...
The Texas Border Wall Opposed by Both Environmentalists and Republicans
The border wall in Big Bend, Texas, is opposed by environmental groups, local sheriffs, and a pro-gun YouTuber running for Congress. It’s happening anyway.

this is the closest I've ever come to actually suggesting a "one neat trick" suggestion for anything, but I'm so serious here. the Virginia Constitution gives the legislature the power to set retirement ages for judges "REGARDLESS OF THE TERM TO WHICH ELECTED OR APPOINTED." make it 54 right now.
How Virginia Democrats can overturn the redistricting ruling: Retire the Supreme Court
The state Constitution gives lawmakers complete latitude to set the judicial retirement age. They should use it.

THEN GO TO WASHINGTON YOURSELF. DEMAND THAT YOUR LEADERSHIP CONVENE THE DEMS. DO SOMETHING!
Completely unstable and perilous. The House must bring up impeachment articles, and the Senate needs to remove a president who wants to commit war crimes. We cannot sit idly by as Donald Trump threatens to end an entire civilization.

Between 1801 and 1913, the state of the union was delivered, not in person, but by a letter from the president to congress. We should return to that practice. Anyway, I won't be watching, listening, or paying any attention to it.

I'm sorry, but this is obfuscation. The reality is simple.

Trump and his adherents are fascist white supremacists aiming to destroy every good thing in America.

If you look at a choice between them and a Democrat - any Democrat - and go "eh, not left enough, I'll pass" you are a child and a fool.
I've seen a bunch of this online, mostly from people less credible than Stancil. I've been a union organizer for almost 30 years and worked on every election in that time period. (I also voted for Harris and protested the genocide.) Posts like this fail to grasp 3 universal truths about elections.
The reason people are concerned about lefties saying “I won’t vote for a moderate Dem” isn’t because they want Newsom. It’s because lefties keep not voting for moderate Dems!

I think all the scolding about it being years til the primary would hit a little harder if WE DIDN’T JUST GO THROUGH THIS
