📜 An Ottoman Qur’an Manuscript, 1844 [𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁]
"Just as We sent down on those who divide—those who have made the Qur'an into fragments. By your Lord, We will surely question them all about what they used to do. So proclaim openly what you are commanded, and turn away from those who associate partners with God. Surely We are sufficient for you against those who scoff—those who set up another deity alongside God; but soon they will come to know. We certainly know that your breast is constrained by what they say. So glorify your Lord with Praise, and be among those who prostrate themselves, and worship your Lord until what is certain (death) comes to you." Surah Al-Hijr (15:90–99) "God’s command (for the Judgment) has come, so do not seek to hasten it. Glorified is He, and high exalted above all that they associate as partners with Him. He sends down the angels with the Revelation of His command upon whom He wills of His servants, saying: "Warn people that there is no deity but I, so keep your duty to Me in piety." He created the heavens and the earth with truth (and for a purpose). High exalted is He above all that they associate as partners with Him. He created human from a drop of fluid; yet behold, he is an open adversary. And the cattle—He created them for you; in them is warmth and many benefits, and of them you eat. And there is beauty in them for you when you bring them home in the evening, and when you lead them out to pasture in the morning. And they carry your loads to lands you could not reach except with great distress to yourselves. Surely your Lord is All-Pitying, All-Merciful. And horses, mules, and donkeys (has He created for you) to ride, as well as for ornament; and He creates what you have no knowledge of." Surah An-Nahl (16:1–8)

"Meeting with the Voivode of Athens: Among the friends I made in Athens, I must include the Voivode, with whom I had a singular opportunity to become acquainted. I had gone near a mosque that I wished to sketch. My work was constantly interrupted by a man who demanded money in a rather rude manner. Annoyed by his importunities, I refused to give him anything before finishing my work and decided to withdraw. While returning home with my box of colors, I passed beneath the Voivode’s windows; he noticed me and politely invited me to come up. I went up at once, and after satisfying his curiosity by showing him the study I had just begun, my brushes, my colors, my palette, and the folding seat I used, I complained about the man’s behavior. He was kind enough to say that he would have me accompanied by an Albanian from his guard, and he kept his word; from that moment I had complete freedom to finish my painting.I eagerly went to thank the Voivode, and from then on we became the best of friends. He often invited me to visit him, never failing to add to his invitation the request that I bring my camp chair. Struck by the pleasure with which he never ceased to contemplate this piece of furniture, which was new to him, I took care before my departure to have a seat made for him that was exactly the same.I had painted his portrait for myself, and I thanked him for his kindness with a copy. One day when I was to sit for a session, I arrived just as he was about to sit down to table with four guests. I left them to it and remained seated on the sofa, promising myself some pleasure in witnessing a Turkish dinner. But the Voivode invited me through an interpreter, and upon my refusal had me told: “I thought my friend would not refuse to dine with me.” I excused myself by saying that I had only just breakfasted."
