Fair play to Ed Miliband, who has broken the political consensus, spoken sense in the Commons and acknowledged our shared humanity. Of course, the government could and should go much further, especially in condemning the continuing horrors in Gaza and stopping ALL arms sales, but this is a start.

With 3.5 - 3.7 million trucks in the country their military may be able to keep sourcing the truck their logistics require but how long before the rest of Russia notice the shortage of trucks which they depend on?

The number of new trucks registered in Russia has decreased significantly. 119K 2021, 81K 2022, 140K 2023, 102K 2024, 62K 2025. This decrease maybe as significant as those destroyed.

The average age of trucks in Russia is 21 years. 64% of them are aged 15+ years.

In the UK the average age of HGVs is 8 years.

Most trucks in Russia are already old but will be forced to continued to operate with all the mechanical, efficiency and safety problems that come with them.
