I read Dune together with a friend and let me tell you I was flabbergasted when she said she didn’t read the diary excerpts at the beginning of every chapter, like ????? It’s literally the book???

Folks don’t be real readers anymore. Skipping prologue, epilogue, big paragraph just to get to dialogue. You’re missing a lot! These things work together!
