Cabmen's shelters were created in 1875 by the Cabmen's Shelter Fund to provide food and drink to hackney carriage drivers without them resorting to pubs. There were originally 61 in London, and the Embankment shelter at Charing Cross is one of 13 that still survive.

A karakasa or kasa-obake is a yokai that looks like an umbrella with one eye and, typically, one leg. Unlike most other yokai, there are no eyewitness accounts or apparent real belief in the karakasa and it appears to exist solely in art and fiction.

I think that I still have it in my heart someday to paint a bookshop with the front yellow and pink in the evening... like a light in the midst of the darkness.

"I just wanted to be friends with the birds," the last transmission read. "They will not follow me to the highest places, where I am faster than even their songs. I would carry them there, like I used to carry you, but they seem so afraid of me. I think, maybe, I was always happier in your company."

You find a book open on the table with two small daisies growing out of the pages. You sit for a moment before leaning down to place one on each of your eyes. You feel the petals gently unfold under your eyelids.

You are now in a field of daisies. You remember what it was like to be a young flower.

Alice never found a way to leave Wonderland. And she eventually gave up trying.

She moved in with the March Hare in a cave by the water. She shaved her legs with a stone and drank sugared seawater.

Much later, she started a library of lost books that washed up on shore. But she never read them.

"I love you."

The mechanic backs away from your car and points at the engine. "Does it always sound like that?"

"Often," you say. "Can you fix it?"

"I love you so much," comes the voice from inside the engine of your car.

"No," your mechanic shakes his head. "I've never experienced this before."

You didn't expect to catch the sun in a Honda Civic, but here you are, at the end of the highway where the horizon meets the road. You invite her out for Waffle House. She says sure, what the heck. It was almost night anyway

Community is cardboard and old newspaper, it's first names without nametags, it's fresh flowers delivered in a minivan, it's vegetables in a brown bag, it's moss and spiderwebs, it's the softness of dogs. Community is generations and the touch of the world.

It broke your heart to see the robot now. Gone were its blue eyes and curious expression. It was a shamble, held together by string and nylon straps, cared for by villains who laughed at its broken, angry mutterings. You barely recognized it, and it didn’t care to remember you.
