Oh no! Just seen the sad news about Dolly Parton. She had such a musical talent, was a great crafter of songs, and modeled how to respect and look after others through her philanthropic work. Such a trailblazer. #DollyParton

Happy #lefthandersday to all Lefties out there! My earliest school memory is a teacher calling me "stupid" cos I couldn't cut a paper shape neatly to its edges. Yup, the memory has lasted nearly 60 years! If you have young Lefties in your life, you can kit them out at www.anythinglefthanded.co.uk

Did me a 5K run this morning, courtesy of the fabulous #InkubusSukkubus "The Goat" album - always good to find music that is ideally paced for my running!

1/2 Just found a recording of the 2013 London perf of #FrankZappa’s “200 Motels Suites”. Whilst lovely to revisit, it brings sadness in that my dear New Yorker friend John (as big a Zappa freak as me) was due to be there, but died a few months before it. The empty seat next to me was important…

Sorry to read of the death of #IkeWillis, vocalist and guitarist with #FrankZappa. Not only a key element in so much of Zappa’s studio output, he was a foil and compadre to Zappa live, including on the 1988 tour I was privileged to see.

Re-reading John Heron’s "The Facilitator’s Handbook", I saw how influential it had been on me, including as an NHS Trust Chair, so have written as blog about how Heron’s approach may be helpful for a Chair: becauseitmattersltd.co.uk/facilitation...
Facilitation as a chairing skill in the Boardroom
Before I became an NHS Trust Chair, I spent many years in the world of third sector group facilitation and training. Working with national charities I was supported to develop my own skills through academic and practical learning. As a result, I became a provider of “training the trainer” courses, as well as group and

Interregnum interviews @jacobengelberg.bsky.social on his new book, Cinemas of Bisexual Transgression. The book argues that the way we look at queer film centres the gay/straight binary and considers what happens when bisexuality breaks the rules.

1/2 Just finished “Cinemas Of Bisexual Transgression” - a challenging, informative, and ultimately rewarding three-weekend read. For a non-cinephile like me, I enjoyed the fact that I knew far more of the referenced movies than I anticipated, particularly in the chapter on les(bi)an vampires!...

So here's 2026! I'm on day two of not being Chair at Nottinghamshire Healthcare, having completed the end of my second three-year term at the end of 2025. It's been a real wrench, especially from so many wonderful people delivering care. We'll see what the year ahead brings!

Music is moonlight in the gloomy night of life – Jean Paul Richter
As part of my way of getting through the stay-at-home requirements of covid-19, I am playing through all my classical music. It's a way for me to connect to some music I've not listened to in a while, but also to get reminders of great concerts as I listen. (I have just been reminiscing about
