The Government had a lever it could have pulled months ago - temporarily cut fuel excise to offset some of the war-driven fuel shock. Instead fuel prices have helped push inflation to 4.1% and the RBNZ has raised the OCR. Now the Government announces it won’t increase excise next year. Too late

I’ve been pondering IRD’s response of liquidating companies that have themselves been put into distress by other liquidations. A chain reaction that wipes employment and erases retirement savings. I’m sure ideologues will exclaim ‘creative destruction’ I’m seeing ecosystem collapse

Great analysis Kent. Personally I’m sad to see the proprietor class so beaten down. And as you say, they’re the job creators - without them it’s all gig economy or salary class. Time someone chose to be a voice for them
