I am impressed in a way: it took the GOP 50 years to rot the USA from the inside to the point that an Orange Shitgibbon could be elected President and Cult Leader. Imagine if that power had been used to nudge the USA towards good.

They cannot imagine anyone refusing them and walking away, much less fighting back. Partly it's their being predators IMO, and partly because US political and business culture are so debased and without consequences for the predator that they have never needed any other approach.
