The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context.

I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

At best, Schumer is setting up to nibble around the edges, protect funding for Israel (and probably not Ukraine btw) then fold anyway.
In reality, without a new War Powers Act with teeth, the Pentagon budget needs to be cut in half to help prevent presidential abuse.

Y'all early people can deal with it. I'm done with the sun going down by 5pm in the winter. You aren't supposed to wake up that early anyway. What are we, farmers?

My problem is centrism becomes entirely about style not substance. I'm open to centrists who are actually pragmatic - identify problems and solve them evem if they step on ideological toes, but more important entrenched interests. But it seems centrists lack pragmatism the most.
Centrist Americans being mystified by Kier Starmer's unpopularity despite him doing everything they're always telling Democrats to do is so funny. Just the biggest dumbasses around.

You need to break out social vs. economic issues. Populist issues are popular in these states, but the Democratic brand is so associated with culture war issues it either pulls focus or prevents electable candidates from advancing from the primary.
look, I wish that running progressives/socialists was the One Simple Trick to winning red states. that would be awesome if it was true.

unfortunately we do not live in that world, and it’s remarkable how many people are shooting the messenger

The easiest way to deal with this is lifting the income cap for payroll taxes as Bernie Sanders has proposed for at least a decade now. Every month or year we wait, the harder it's going to be to pull the fund back into a solvent path.

Going back to Reynolds v. Sims, the Supreme Court dismissed arguments in favor of one man, one vote based on the 'republican form of government' clause. But gerrymandering is so egregious and offensive to the principle of citizens choosing their representatives I think it needs renewed attention.
Its redistricting rulings demonstrate that the Roberts Court's is "way more attentive to the concerns of protecting power than they are to the Constitution’s attention to assuring that voters have their say,” says @kareemcrayton.bsky.social.
Gerrymandering Is Only Going to Get Worse
Legal experts warn that the current partisan redistricting efforts could signal the beginning of the end for fair representation.

I'm not sure getting oneself elected as the leadership of one's party in a chamber of Congress is 'by default' getting thrust into the position of standard-bearer. It's more damning that Congressional Democrats chose to vote for those jokers.
it is especially untenable because there is no current standard bearer for the democrats and so, by default, jeffries and schumer get thrust into that position

the worst people in the world are attempting to implement a fascist kleptocracy and schumer's focus is pissing off his own base

The Platner test on here kind of proves that too many so-called progressives are just interested in a performative, self-gratifyiny symbolic exercise and can't even be bothered to engage in the substance of the issues and people they claim to care about.

We gave Amazon a $17.5 BILLION tax break last year.

Meta got $13.7 BILLION.

Citigroup didn't pay a penny—we gave them a tax REFUND.

Those tax breaks didn't do anything to create jobs, let alone save them.

We have got to stop with the corporate tax giveaways.
