The Monterey County NOW Editorial Board agrees: public service shouldn't be a luxury only the wealthy can afford. Pacific Grove council pay has been frozen since 1998 while our neighbors moved on. Measure C fixes that. Vote YES by June 2.

Pacific Grove council pay hasn’t changed since 1998.

For 27 years, costs climbed while pay stayed frozen. Measure C is modest, sensible, and overdue.

Endorsed by Monterey County Democrats, DSA Central Coast, and PG Progressives.

Vote YES on C.

“Gettin’ Jiggy wit It” hit No. 1 in 1998. That same year, Pacific Grove council pay hit $420 a month and stayed there.

Twenty-seven years. No adjustment. No COLA. Nothing.

Get civic wit it.

Vote YES on Measure C by June 2.

In 1998, California minimum wage was $5.75 an hour. Today, it is $16.90. Pacific Grove council pay has not changed since 1998. Public service should be accessible to working people, not just the wealthy and well connected. Vote YES on Measure C.

If City Council service pays less than minimum wage and does not even cover childcare, who gets shut out? Working parents and working people. Public service should be accessible.

Vote YES on Measure C.

Our endorsement vote reflected the breadth of PG Progressives: retirees, young adults, renters, homeowners, newer neighbors, and longtime residents. Voting closed last night. Results soon.

The Monterey County Democratic Central Committee has endorsed Measure C in Pacific Grove. City Council members haven’t had a raise in 27 years. Public service shouldn’t be a luxury. Vote YES in June. 🗳️

Stop offshore drilling off California. A new federal plan could reopen our waters to new oil & gas leasing, putting marine wildlife, our coastline, and nearby communities at risk.

Let’s make every yard a safe stop. Ninety percent of our monarchs were lost last year. We can change that with pesticide-free yards, seasonal native nectar plants, and wind-sheltering trees. Get your Safe Monarch yard sign to help spread the word.

Nobody’s gonna rain on our parade! Though our beach bonfire got rained out, we pivoted at the last minute, and still 15 absolute troopers showed up, costumes and all. Giant thank you to everyone who rolled with the punches and brought the joy anyway.🐦‍⬛ 🦨 🐻🦩
