State Audit Finds Dysfunction, Rule-Breaking, Lack of Transparency at U of L Foundation

UK needs a major Audit. Fouling the ball is also breaking the rules, maybe even a review of the final minutes from 1995-2015. @connorgiffin.bsky.social

Two book clubs 📚 One with special ed and school counselling folks on The Anti-Ableist Manifesto (structured, accessible), the other Nenqayni crew reading Becoming Kin (deep, heavy, relational circle). Different pedagogical spaces, shared learning. What are you reading right now? 👀

Jokingly put my spare (hated) pair of glasses on Dedenne only to find out she looks AMAZING in them

NOIRLab image of the week

Milky Way Glows Over Rubin

Credit: NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory/NOIRLab/SLAC/AURA/H. Stockebrand

noirlab.edu/public/image... 🧪🔭
Two icons share the stage in this Image of the Week: the luminous band of the Milky Way galaxy and NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory. This image also captures the red and green hues of airglow, a very faint optical phenomenon caused by light emitted by Earth’s atmosphere. While the colors appear quite prominent in this image, airglow has little effect on the ability of Rubin or other telescopes to observe the night sky.

does this include anti-bias, such as for insects and bats? I would like to exclude dead and nonliving objects :0 :0 @feeds.byarielm.fyi

🌿💧 BRIEF COMMUNICATION 💧🌿

An anthranilate synthase involved in the biosynthesis of L-tryptophan interacts with the stress hormone, abscisic acid (ABA), and is required for ABA-induced closing of stomata - Yu et al.

🔗 doi.org/10.1093/jxb/...
#PlantScience 🧪
Fig. 1 (shortened, full legend in paper): ABA-dependent stomatal movements and osmotic stress responses. (A) Arabidopsis thaliana mutant plants asa2-1 (ABRC stock no. CS420926) and asa2-2 (ABRC stock no. CS437804) have T-DNA insertions at exon 11 and exon 2 of ASA2, respectively. (B and C) asa2-1 and asa2-2 plants have impaired ABA-induced guard cell movements resulting in more pronounced stomatal closing than opening responses, as compared with Col-0. (B) For ABA-induced stomatal closing, leaf epidermis was first placed in an opening solution and kept under light for 3 h to promote stomatal opening prior to a further 90 min of illumination with or without ABA. (C) For ABA inhibition of stomatal opening, leaf epidermis was first placed in closing solution in the dark for 3 h to induce stomatal closure prior to light exposure for 90 min with or without ABA.
