Excellent new book by Mike Heyes. Mike traces the HX of American fascination with all things ‘devilish,’ and particularly how useful the devil has proven to be politically! Scholarly, accessible.

Got one of those squirrel-proof bird feeders that spins the critters off- works great for the squirrels (and is really funny!) but doesn’t deter chipmunks who stuff their little jowls w seeds and are too light to trip the spinner!-(

We can believe we’ll receive $5,000 if the Republicans hold on to power after midterms (God forbid!) when we receive rebates from the tariffs (that went to big corporations).

It’s hard to believe that there are still maga stupidly buying into this demented old man’s delusions.

Trump told reporters today that the war will immediately end when the elections are over because Iran can’t hold on much longer. He also claims gas at that point gas will be under $2.00.

Last week, Danbury area residents showed up in huge numbers to draw the line on the brutal ICE tactics being used there - including traumatizing kids at school bus stops.

It's action like this that saves our democracy.

Compassionate God,
we confess that we struggle to embody your goodness in the world and in our own hearts.
Turn our hearts back to you.
Restore our world and reconcile us to one another.
Renew us to live as your holy people, following the way of Jesus Christ.
Amen.

When Jesus ate with tax collectors, welcomed prostitutes, forgave sinners and touched lepers he wasn't acting out of character. Jesus was revealing the truth of God.

A good and needed statement, and it's refreshing to hear a direct challenge to "the public." Often "the public" is treated as this innocent body that must be placated at all costs, but "the public" (usually meaning "white people" when invoked by politicians) need to repent too.
"We call on political leaders of every party to condemn this intimidation and violence without qualification, and on the public to reject the politics of blame."

Vocab lesson of the day. Came across ‘minished’ in the 1928 BCP Psalter (Ps. 12:1). Modern trans have ‘vanished.’ But ‘minished’ has the sense of being reduced to near nothing. “The faithful are minished from among the children of men.” 🧏‍♂️

We travlers, walking to the sun, can't see
Ahead,bt looking back the very light
That blinded us shows us the way we came,
Along which blessings now appear,risen
As if fr sightlessness to sight, & we,
By blessings brightly lit, keep going toward
The blessed light that yet to us is dark.
