“We must be clear that when it comes to atoms, language can be used only as in poetry. The poet, too, is not nearly so concerned with describing facts as with creating images and establishing mental connections.”

— Niels Bohr, as recalled by Werner Heisenberg, 𝘗𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 (1971), p. 41

“The breakthrough came suddenly one day. I was sitting on a chair in my patent office in Bern. Suddenly a thought struck me: If a man falls freely, he would not feel his weight. I was taken aback. This simple thought experiment made a deep impression on me.

“At a very early age, I made an assumption that a successful physicist only needs to know elementary mathematics. At a later time, with great regret, I realized that the assumption of mine was completely wrong.” ~ Albert Einstein

Near the end of his life, he expressed his thoughts to a friend.
