I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

She took a side in culture wars. It might feel like she didn’t bc she was proudly a hillbilly country singer from evangelical family, her comments were affirmative rather than critical (eg “yay trans people” rather than “boo transphobes”), and she commented less on electoral politics.
