I kinda always imagine Dr. Doom as intelligent, but also tremendously egotistic and driven by the pettiest grievances. Like, he's just kind of a humongous jerk. I don't think he needs a tragic back story.

Ironically, it's a pretty good metaphor for what Spider-Office has been doing to the character for years. A personality-less, grotesque, and deformed counterfeit of what the character should be.
Marvel have been weirdly obsessed with trying to make this specific design, big hulking Spider-Man with a big goofy teethy grin work for the past few years and I do not get it

It really is impressive just how committed the Spider-Offices are to deliberately alienating the vast majority of their audience for seemingly no reason other than to indulge a handful of people who don't seem to be that interested in Spider-Man to begin with.
