I know I never found any used (E175 maint). Smokers more likely to (try to) hide in lav and use potty to dispose. Detectors definitely need to remain.

Cost...and paperwork. Easier and cheaper to just put a no smoke sign up. Attrition will cause removal with no further action.

I believe in some cases it’s also part of the original equipment list used for certification which means ‘technically’ if it’s not there the aircraft isn’t airworthy unless it’s on the MEL.

Used that hatch many times, on the old 707 to access, just aft of nose gear. Quite the tight twisting climb. It was on floor under Nav table.
