I was really looking forward to this one! "Reimagining Tokyo through Black Markets" by Professor Ishigure. While the text is in Japanese, the photographs and maps are superb. They transport the reader into the daily life of post-war Tokyo. Very recommended! 📖

Some photos from the book presentation, "We're Still Here," by Professor Fernando Ortiz-Moya, from last July. It is always a pleasure to learn from him about how some cities can turn population decline into opportunities to build more resilient and livable communities.

Last April, we visited the "I Love Elephants" exhibition at Takashimaya Archives in Nihonbashi (Tokyo). The exhibition traces the life of an elephant named "Taka-chan" and offers a fascinating look at Tokyo as it was decades ago. The exhibition runs until August 31st! 🐘

"We're Still Here: Regenerating Shrinking Cities from the Ground Up," by my dear friend, Prof. Fernando Ortiz-Moya. A really recommended read for this summer, not only for those working in urban decline but also for anyone who loves cities and seeks to design more humane environments.

Just got "Taiwan Night Market Taizen" by Masaya Sanmonji, a fascinating exploration (in Japanese) of Taiwan's yatai culture, from food stalls and games to beauty services and fortune-telling. Goes deep into history, infrastructure, and urban form. Very engaging!

We went to see the Black Markets and the Reimagining of Tokyo exhibition, based on Prof. Masakazu Ishigure's research, at Takashimaya Department Store. Although the exhibition space is small, it is full of amazing photographs and maps illustrating everyday life in postwar Tokyo.

I am reading "Preserving with Purpose: Reimagining Buildings for Community Benefit, by Amy Hetletvedt." A great reflection on the value of reactivating abandoned buildings through narratives, and the power of everyday places to foster neighborhood regeneration.
