Many people say because of unions, laws etc it's impossible to discipline bad cops. But many tools to discipline and punish cops exist, they are just deployed exclusively against whistleblowers and honest cops so corrupt cops can drum them off the force
NEW: I spent months trying to understand why a cop who spoke out against Flock faced five internal affairs investigations and was pushed out of his job—only to find himself at the center of an unlikely political fight uniting parts of the American right and left.

I get asked occasionally why me, as an older cis man, I’m so passionate about transgender rights - especially kids.

One of the first out transgender people I met was a young woman who tried to take her own life, we were able to intubate and resuscitate her…
Reminder this Pride Month that the more than 40% of transgender adults have attempted suicide and 81% of transgender adults in the U.S. have thought about suicide.

people still want to act like nihilism is cool but it is actually bullshit compliance.

humans are not going away. we get to decide if future generations suffer or if they live free.

hope is punk as fuck. our oppressors want us to believe we have no power and nothing is possible.

it’s not true.

the voting rights act actually worked, which is why the conservative legal movement immediately went to work on dismantling it

this has been the focus of john roberts' entire legal career
Re the Voting Rights Act: I've used this graph a lot to illustrate how the VRA largely ended the historic pattern of blocking and burdening Black voters in the south.

The NYT is being disingenuous here. The AMA has *always* said that gender-affirming surgeries should generally be reserved for adults. That's part of why so few kids get them!

The AMA reiterated this position and the NYT is characterizing it as a policy change. It's not.
The New York Times’s body of reporting on the American Medical Association’s stance on gender-related care for minors is accurate and factual, and remains so despite the recent statement from the Chair of the A.M.A. Board, which contradicts the A.M.A.’s own statements. www.nytco.com/press/fact-c...

The public health field has bent over backwards to assuage the ‘concerns’ of anti-vaxxers for almost 3 decades now. It’s not working.

The way forward is stigmatizing these child-killing freaks and mandating that every kid gets a jab. Expand access, sure but that’s not going to move the needle.

Part of functional literacy is being able to understand, on your own, the concept that the writer is writing for a specific audience. That the thing has a specific context.

Like, an article about dog grooming is addressed to dog owners. It does not need to include cat grooming.
