How Trump turned the presidency into a $5 billion grift
How Trump turned the presidency into a $5 billion grift
Estimates of U.S. President Donald Trump's net worth vary. According to Forbes, it reached $6.5 billion in March. Trump made the transition from millionaire to billionaire back in the late 1980s, focusing primarily on high-end real estate. And he has become richer and richer during his second presidency. The New York Times' Charles Homans analyzes Trump's efforts to monetize the presidency in a lengthy analysis published on Friday, arguing that he is taking grift to historic levels. "How much is the American presidency worth?" Homans writes in the Times. "You could start the bidding at $2.2 billion: the minimum amount that President Trump is thought to have earned during his first year back in office. That figure is three and a half times what his family businesses earned in 2024, the last full year before he resumed the presidency. Most of it comes from cryptocurrency ventures…. From there, you could add another $1.6 billion, the amount of federal financing the administration recently approved for an obscure company subsequently hired to develop a mineral concern in Kazakhstan, in a deal negotiated personally with the Kazakh government by Trump and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick. Surely by coincidence, Trump's sons are now investors." Homans continues, "Plus $400 million, the market value of the jet that the Qatari government gave Trump last year, now grounded over security concerns. And there is the $1.776 billion 'anti-weaponization fund' that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche unveiled in May to settle a $10 billion lawsuit brought by Trump's personal lawyers over the leak of his tax returns during his first term." The Times' headline for Homans' piece reads, "Voters Think All Politicians Are a Little Corrupt, but Trump Might Be Pushing It" — with a sub-headline noting the "difference between ordinary influence peddling" and the Trump family's "outright self-enrichment." "Cynicism" on the part of U.S. voters, according to Homans, may account for Trump being so open about using the presidency to dramatically increase his net worth. "No American politician, arguably, has understood and exploited this ambient cynicism more successfully than Trump, who has campaigned three times against 'corrupt' enemies and a 'rigged' system and twice led the most flagrantly self-enriching presidencies this country has seen," Homans writes. "There's a difference, though, between a dozen or so million in government payments to Trump-owned resort properties — the most attention-grabbing form that Trump's conflicts took in his first presidency — and the multibillion-dollar spoils that have been made public in recent months…. For decades, Americans have lamented the comparatively subtle corruption of campaign finance in the language of the 19th-Century outrages. That has made the unexpected return of actual 19th-century-style self-dealing — at previously unheard-of scale and dare-you-to-stop-me openness — harder to confront on its own terms."

Guess the Supreme Court is worried about all those gosh darn gun laws they weaken each term. We all need “ millions “ to protect our schools , churches ,stores , theaters , concerts etc etc. They should get in line.

St Peter who doesn’t wear a red hat has quite a dilemma. At one point Graham was a decent guy who put country over party and was a good friend to those across the political aisle despite different policy views. But then swerved into Satan’s arms. There just might be a purgatory after all.

He really needs to see the upside. If it happened , he could perhaps legally get his name on the Kennedy Center

I believe Graham Platner’s accuser and believe he must step down. That said, her timing is a bit curious.

So if the American team somehow makes it to the finals , they , at the direction of their president, cheated. Even this he ruins.

Now a helipad added to a paved Rose Garden , monstrous out of scale ballroom , arches , signage etc. Someone should tell Trump he is 80 with very few years left. When he is gone no one will praise any of the above , people will rejoice and DC will be restored to its quiet dignity.

I wasted my life as a mid level manager when I could have been a Supreme Court Justice even without even a law degree. Every decision I knew in advance not only how they would rule but who would agree and who would dissent .

Alito:I’ve got a full summer of plans. So Justice Roberts if emergency requests come in put me on record as allowing Trump to do whatever he wants, disallow any brown immigrants into the country and get rid of the black and brown ones already here that we haven’t already addressed. See u in the fall

Poor Mike Johnson. Trump just gave Elizabeth Warren total credit for the wildly popular bipartisan housing bill.

The GOP must be going bonkers over Trump tying Elizabeth Warren to the wildly popular bipartisan housing bill. I’m sure it was their plan to have FOX NEWS give total credit to the GOP to assist them in the midterms. 😂😂😂

I wish every American would hear the Obamas today at the Obama Library and think back. Decency , honesty , integrity were such good looks for our country , we need to get that back.
