Alright, I'm logging off. Night y'all.

And please, don't take this post personally (unless the shoe fits). It's not everyone out here like this, and I know I vent a lot, but the few bad interactions have been bad enough to warrant the reactions. I've only given surface level details.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just mildly irritated from trying to engage, and ending up burnt out.

Although... I absolutely love working with the local kids. They're the total opposite of that and they still have that spark. And I love it.

The children are the future for sure!

It's okay to collaborate with people outside your safe spaces. It's okay to try new things.

It's also okay to acknowledge shortcomings and where things can be improved.

You don't have to believe the old misconceptions either. Everything isn't black and white. It's okay to grow.

To be clear - I don't hate everyone here.

But I do want to see the city grow, thrive, and succeed. It won't happen if you cling onto the past and refuse to accept the changes in times.

It also won't happen if you continue to ice out the outsiders bringing fresh perspectives.

I like Indy as a locale. A lot of greenspace. Centrally located with a great airport.

But the people who are here fighting against change and trying to strong arm status quo and antiquated ideas.. Screw y'all.

I feel for the wonderful people from here who are putting in the work to counter this.

4. The local Democrats.

I recently learned that their delegates are appointed and they pay to be in their positions.

Mind you, I was a delegate. Elected by the people for the party. Not me paying dues like it's a sorority.

Like the BS has to stop. Really.

3. The constant questioning of my intelligence and foundational knowledge of things.

It's no secret I dislike Andre Carson, but for his supporters trying to discredit people for going to private HS, while being a private HS grad is wild. Nevermind I graduated from a public HS.

Speaking of...

Literal comment from white colleague: "I took Spanish in high school too". 🤦🏾‍♀️

2. DJing. Confession - I didn't really want to do it professionally. I'm a performing arts/band kid who stole her dad's old equipment.

I got roped into it, then told I was unserious and sleeping my way into gigs. 🙄

I know this sounds dumb, but here me out on some of my experiences with people here, and even online (including reddit):

1. Questioning my Spanish proficiency and Latino heritage because I'm Black. No seriously.

This actually happened at a job. They refused to acknowledge my fluency.

So yeah.

I will not crash out if you voted for someone that I don't support. I may side eye you, but voting is a deeply personal choice, and I feel everyone should make informed decisions, and not just ones guided by the parties, PACs, or name recognition.

I have not been paid to hate Carson. I have not been paid to work for any campaign, including positions as a staffer/intern in the past have been unpaid.

I currently promote candidates independently of their campaign on my social media for informational purposes. You should know who's running.

I'm posting this because there's now a good chunk of people who think I've been paid by an opposing campaign to go against Andre Carson.

My issues with him are from my PERSONAL experience with him and his office. It's not a secret that I don't like him. I've voted against him every election.

With all of that being said, if I promote a candidate, it is because I have personally done the research and support them.

I do not agree with the "vote blue no matter who". I support the retirement of officials over 70. I think there should be MINIMUM education or experience requirements to run.

It's absolutely no secret that my political stances revolve around what is best for the most vulnerable members of our society. And my work in the community that I do not publicize reflects this.

I have not worked on a campaign since Obama's in 2012. I am a registered independent voter.

Originally hailing from the Detroit Metropolitan area (Western Wayne County, where I served), I relocated to Indianapolis in 2010, where I hoped I could serve as well.

I essentially was ousted/blacklisted from the party after Obama's 2012 campaign. That's a whole other story for another day.
