The MP for the next constituency over was visiting my house because of an event my mum was having, and she gave the example of "if everyone in the UK had £20 and paid their next door neighbour £10 to come over and vacuum, the UK's GDP would skyrocket despite no additional money entering the system."

I gotta hand it to her that this is one of the best explanations an MP has ever given for anything. I immediately and intuitively grasped:

1. what GDP is
2. why using it as an indicator of economic health is useless
3. why using it as an indicator of anything else is questionable
