Imagine a modern world leader (trying) to do that.
Reminds me of a funny thing where someone observed that a skill lost in world leadership is horsemanship, which 1) was necessary for travel and to be visible in a crowd 2) Forces you to know how to work WITH the creature(s) you use and lead.

On the one hand,I don't want to spoil their fun. On the other hand people playing and screaming about football 2 in the morning on a Thursday outside my window made me consider building a mortar to clear the area

HOWEVER, I don't know the cost of (steam) refunds and if the gain for an indie from demo coverage/searchability might outweigh the lack of spontaneity rent. IMO Keep the demo up AS LONG AS IT STILL REPRESENT THE GAME AS SOLD, not with old now fixed bugs and missing features. Make a new in that case!

Back in the olden days (late 00s early 10s) demos mostly disappeared because they were not conclusive to sales, because the curious and spontaneous would buy to try since they could not try freely, and not everyone would or could refund. So from that POV, I can see how it might be a good move...
