Not a postcard this time, but a small old print I found in a postcard bundle.
Hold Hard There! by Henry Alken shows an early steam train coming face to face with a fox hunt and a pack of hounds on the railway line.
The image dates from around 1845 to 1850.

“Eggs Dear! How would you like to turn ’em out 4 for a Bob?”
A bit of wartime humour from 1916. This old postcard was sent home during the First World War and still carries its Field Censor mark on the back.

Biskra, Algeria, 1906.
A postcard showing Le Casino among the palm trees, sent from Algeria to France 120 years ago.
I love that the stamp was stuck right on the picture.

The Low-Backed Car
An old Irish postcard illustrating the popular 19th-century song by Samuel Lover. Peggy rides with the livestock while her admirer declares he'd rather have her beside him than “a coach and four, and gold galore”.

Bolton Brow, Sowerby Bridge, over a century ago.
The tram catches your eye first, but I always end up looking at the people. Who were they, where were they going, and what did an ordinary day here look like?

“THIS IS MY MILK!”
This kitten clearly isn’t in the mood for sharing.
An early 20th-century Raphael Tuck “Oilette” postcard, with two hopeful puppies eyeing up the milk.

An Edwardian postcard from 1906 showing a father and child out with a pair of horses.

A touch of 1930s glamour.
Austrian actress Elizabeth Bergner pictured as Catherine the Great. This postcard was No. 24 in a series of 24 given away in larger packets of De Reszke cigarettes.

Monday morning in London, around 1927.
A North London milkman making his rounds with a three-wheeled trolley. Look closely at the sign: “London’s Safest Milk.”
Milk safety was a serious concern at the time as pasteurisation became more widespread.

Yesterday, I fondly remembered my dear friend Leonard Nimoy, who would have turned 94. His legacy lives on in our hearts. Just days ago, Bill Shatner celebrated his 94th birthday — wishing him continued health and happiness. Live long and prosper, my friends.
