we've had some trouble with this in event promo before, so between that & not wanting to alienate japanese guests, we wanted to do physical prizes instead. most of you don't mind, which we greatly appreciate! i just hope this helps you understand why we're doing this. (3/3)

to put it simply, japanese law's very broad definition of "gambling" makes it illegal to receive cash prizes from a tournament if prize money comes from participants' entry fees. it's possible to get around this in some cases, but those are gray areas more than anything. (2/3)
