When I was in high school in the 10th or 11th grade in America History, I was taught that the Monroe Doctrine en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monroe_..., protected the Americas from European colonialism. It has become clear that it actually asserts a superior claim to exploit the rest of this hemisphere.
