A friend saw my messages/updates and decided to send me the money needed to get the repairs
I won't name names, for their privacy, but I'm so so so grateful
I really don't know what I've done to deserve kindness like this, not just from them but from everyone I know

Update on this, I took it to a shop with a free diagnosis and they just got back to me today and they confirmed my motherboard is damaged and needs to be replaced (everything else is fine)
Shit costs $200 and I have no way to pay it

I am actually grateful for social media today. If you are under 25, you are getting a more honest accounting of the post 9/11 era than I got about the post-Vietnam era than I did as a young person. I attribute this 100% to social media. Traditional media and US politicians cannot be counted on.

This situation reminds me a bit of filmmakers like Scorsese being unable to get funding from the studios anymore, because the people they'd worked with in the past are gone and for the folks who are there now, it's purely a numbers game.
