I hurt my shoulder recently and I've had to fly twice. It's been very revealing to me how uncomfortable I have been asking for help 😖 especially since I can't lift a bag over my head.

I'm teaching students about accessing technology available to them and it's interesting to hear them say they hate AI. And how much anxiety it is causing them. At the same time, when I teach courses, I see so many students using AI to complete assignments that are "easy." It's hard.

Full article from @nytimes.com about Cesar Chavez is out today. This should be free access to the article. Out history books always narrow this movement to one hero, but the movement was groups of people coming together to fight for vulnerable workers.

Excited to see this update, I used to use the older version during advising. They don't really know.
What can you do with a sociology degree? More than you realize! ASA’s “Majoring in Sociology: A Pathway to Opportunity” brochures and booklets detail how a BA in sociology prepares students for rewarding careers. https://bit.ly/4cTWMae

If you also stop to think about it our jobs carry all sorts of expenses that can easily make the job cost YOU money!

So we're not only NOT taking our time off, we're paying our jobs to do the work. 😱 Make it make sense!

Meanwhile we're over here asking if women ruined the workplace. She's pushing structural changes forward and some w a platform asking us to go backwards.

This week someone on my campus used all of their entitlement & positionality to bring trash (putting it nicely) to the faculty & staff listserv. It was awful.

The only positive.

I appreciate when people show me that they are not a safe space for me.

I spend a lot of time helping faculty & future faculty prepare for the landmines of academia. So far on this site, I've read stories about someone getting nasty & unnecessary comments from a reviewer, someone not being "allowed" to be chair, and obituary sponsorship.

I'm paying a lot of attention to the California State budget cuts for education and it feels like everyone thinks we'll be ok bc we're a blue state, but it does feel like we'll be ok. It feels like the stakes are so high but folks are just planning on their next political role.
