The Odyssey Review
It's a compelling story, masterfully told. Nolan's film is a deeply human story told with epic sweep. All the major characters are revealed to be many-sided and as we witness the twists and turns overtake them, we genuinely feel for them.

I don't mind reviews that are critical or people expressing views that are critical, but Emily Wilson's criticisms of the Odyssey, apart from being snide and glibly dismissive, are broad to the point of misrepresentation and inaccuracy. Trenchent and cogent criticism it most certinaly is not.

It's easy to overlook behavior when you agree with someone's agenda.
At the end of the day, my litmus test for the behavior of elected officials is this: how would I feel if a member of the other party acted in a similar way.
We should all be careful about the precendents that are set by anyone.

Organizations and institutions that provide people with vital, essential services must be completely devoted to access and the quality of services. A for-profit model, because of its very nature, can never do that and will never do that.

I don't care for people being rude, demeaning, or arrogant. It's unproductive. We expect children to "use their words" and express themselves in a civil manner. Same standard should apply to adults.

Remember when we had to "cite our sources" when writing a report? That was a good thing.
Now people click share/repost/send without thinking once, never mind thinking twice LOL

There was a time when newspapers voluntarily printed corrections and retractions when they reported inaccurate information they did this because a reputation for being trustworthy and reliable was valuable and valued.

I love the fact that somehow people think "fact checking" is censorship or somehow infringes on freedom of expression...people yelling fire in a crowded movie theatre because it's their "opinion" ain't something we need as a society LOL

So I love film and the European films from the 60s have a special place in my heart. There's just something so striking about their combination of formal rigor and emotional incandescence.
Here's an essay that I think really conveys how special these movies are:
