Unless you need to handle arbitrary user input you can probably get away with Latin-1 or some custom variant.

Thanks, the plan is for the final art style to be kinda late 90s realism/early 00s low budget, but I've become kind of fond of the programmer art/Tron look so I'll probably keep it for some practice modes or something.

Well really only tricky because Earth is a little squashed. I can go from lat/lon to X/Y without too many headaches, it's going back that's tough since the Y coordinate ends up depending on the Earth's radius at that latitude and I need the latitude to compute that but it's the latitude I want. Blah

train simulator (swedish) in the style of 電車でGO!, based on map data that will eventually have style data added onto it (I'm working on the editor for that but globe coordinates are tricky)

When I was like 6 years old there was a kid at school that had a Yoda-shaped magic 8 ball and all the time he would ask it "do you have crabs in your nose?" Given that he kept asking I don't think he ever found out.

Most of the code I write requires only occasional "why" comments. All of my assembly code is either commented like a Knuth program or becomes ancient lost knowledge in a week.

I swear one of these days I'm making the Email Client That Doesn't Suck.

Step one is to remove Microsoft Outlook from history, haven't figured out how yet.

It turns out that the way all computer games used to be written still works. Who could have guessed?!

pro tip if you really want it to hurt: have the scene stack be made out of another thread's call stack, because I have multi-threading, why would I ever design a menu system that makes sense when I can just have another thread

I don't like my menu system very much.

The one thing that makes something an imsim is the default interact button. Is it a mouse button? Imsim. Keyboard key? Not imsim. Myst and Minecraft are imsims, PREY is not. Excel, believe it or not, is an imsim.

It used to be you could hack anything you wanted with TECO and DDT. Now it's impossible to get out of bed without asking Claude to open the blinds first.

at gork please read the morning doomscroll for me, what should I cry over today? Copilot, turn on the music to help Claude think about my work.

Honestly I think colorblind testing should be done with a grayscale filter since that's a worst-case scenario and if the game is playable like that then it should work for any other form of colorblindness too.

I've been occasionally pondering the idea of writing a game in FORTRAN 77. Luckily I have enough other projects going on to stop me from trying.

Thankfully I've managed to get this image to become the primary association my mind has with his name.

It's very funny when this happens to videos intended as language learning material.

I believe I've heard you talk something about an interactive game development environment. I do interactive programming just about any time I get the chance so I would find that interesting to read about.

I suspect I won't get a satisfying answer so in its absence I'll assume that the stars align and the cosmic rays bless the 360's floating point instructions to behave just right for the problem to go unnoticed.

There's nothing quite like a bug that makes you feel like time and space are breaking apart in your mind...

Actually, now I'm curious. If the x87's precision allowed it to work by chance, was this a problem on Xbox 360 too? That had a PowerPC CPU, right? Did the stars just align right back then?
